KUCHING: Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) is eyeing over 40 seats in the coming state election, said PKR state liaison chief Baru Bian.He said most of these seats would be in Bumiputera majority areas.
“We have identified qualified people for these seats. In some constituencies we have identified up to four potentials per seat so that we can choose the best,” Baru told The Borneo Post yesterday.
Talk is rife that PKR is targeting Malay and Dayak majority seats in both urban and rural areas.
“We are still negotiating on the seat allocation among our Pakatan Rakyat members in Sarawak,” said Baru.

In Sarawak, Pakatan Rakyat consists of the Democratic Action Party (DAP), Parti Se-Islam Malaysia (Pas), Sarawak National Party (SNAP) and PKR.
Baru said he is optimistic the party would make inroads during the upcoming polls. “We are in because we believe the people are ready for change in Sarawak.”
On the possibility of PKR becoming the backbone of the state government and him becoming the next chief minister, Baru said it would be up to the people to decide who will be given the mandate to rule.
“We can’t speculate at this juncture but we are there to provide an alternative to the Barisan Nasional (BN),” he said.
Baru stressed that PKR Sarawak is relying on its own resources and not funds from its central body.
“This makes it very challenging for PKR in the coming state election as we will be facing resource rich BN machinery,” he said.
Meanwhile, Baru said PKR Sarawak will convene its meeting soon to decide whether its leaders would contest for any post at national level.
“We will come up with a resolution on our next course of action in early October,” he added.
PKR Sarawak has 29 registered branches.
